We could choose for example SHOPPING
In this case, students will learn new vocabulary about shopping, and to acquire knowdlegde and to assure learning we could make the students create a sort of multishop, so they could get more and new vocabulary. You could split them in groups and some could be the butcher, the beauty parlor, the tailor, the grocery store, using simple things to represent the type of shop they are part of.
One thing that it is very good to help them develop the oral skill is to create debates, in which students (always help by the teacher) argue about different things.
